In doing so, he joined an elite list featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Kapil Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Gill leads from the front

On a sweltering afternoon in Lucknow, Gill produced one of the finest innings of his captaincy career. Coming in after the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, the skipper first stitched together a valuable stand with Rohit Sharma before taking complete control of the contest alongside Ishan Kishan.Gill smashed 22 fours and two sixes during his 110-ball stay, while Kishan hammered 125 off just 79 deliveries. The pair added a match-defining 224 runs for the third wicket as India piled up 402 before being bowled out in the final over.Afghanistan never recovered from the daunting chase. Rahmat Shah fought hard with 79, but regular strikes from Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar ensured India bowled out the visitors for 232 in 44.3 overs. The comprehensive victory handed India their first ODI series win under Gill’s leadership.
